Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), through its CI Advanced Bioenergy Fund I (CI ABF I), has made the final investment decision for the acquisition of a combined pre-treatment and biogas facility from Ørsted in Northwich, UK. The facility currently includes a pre-treatment unit for municipal solid waste and a biogas plant generating electricity for the grid.

CIP plans to refurbish and convert the facility into a dedicated biogas plant, pending necessary permits. The upgrade will include the addition of a new digester, biomethane upgrading units, and carbon capture technology to produce biomethane and liquid biogenic carbon. The refurbishment and expansion are scheduled to begin in 2026, with the upgraded plant expected to commence operations by 2028. Once operational, the upgraded plant will process more than 170,000 tonnes of feedstock annually.

In September 2025, CIP, through CI ABF I, approved the final investment decision for the Nivalan Biokaasu biogas facility in Finland, The facility will produce more than 200 GWh of biomethane annually, with construction scheduled for late 2025, and operations scheduled for the second half of 2027.
