Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), through its Copenhagen Infrastructure V fund, has acquired the Gawara Baya hybrid project located in North Queensland, Australia. The project was acquired from Windlab. The project combines a 408 MW onshore wind farm comprising 68 wind turbines with a 104 MW grid-forming battery energy storage system (BESS). Commercial operations for the project are expected in 2030.
Furthermore, CIP has taken the final investment decision and achieved financial close for the project, securing an $1.7 billion financing facility from a consortium of 10 banks. The project will supply clean electricity to approximately 240,000 Australian homes and offset approximately 1.2 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually. The project has secured long-term offtake agreements with Stanwell and SmartestEnergy.
In August 2026, CIP, through its Growth Markets Fund II, reached final investment decision and financial close on La Esperanza hybrid project located in Campeche, Mexico. The project comprises a 420 MWdc solar project with a 150 MW/750 MWh five-hour duration BESS. Project construction is currently underway, with commercial operations expected to commence in 2028.
