Scout Clean Energy, a Colorado-based renewable energy company, has finalised a deal to sell electricity from a 209 MW solar park it will build in Texas to Colgate-Palmolive Co. The companies have signed a power purchase agreement regarding what will be Scout’s first greenfield solar photovoltaic project.

Reportedly, the Markum solar park will be built close to the city of Waco in McLennan and Bosque Counties and will be able to generate electricity for almost 32,200 homes in the ERCOT market. Furthermore, the construction is planned to begin this autumn, whereas the plant is scheduled to start commercial operations by the end of next year.

In September 2023, Scout Clean Energy selected GE Renewable Energy as the wind turbine provider for its 200 MW Sweetland wind project in Hand County, South Dakota. According to the agreement, 71 of GE’s 2.8–127 onshore wind turbines were shipped to the Sweetland project, which Scout had to manage. Scout and GE jointly deployed 1.07 GW of wind energy capacity.

REGlobal’s Views: Colgate-Palmolive Co has plans to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2040 and 100 per cent renewable electricity across its global operations by 2030. Such corporate solar power PPAs are becoming increasingly common as corporates switch to green power to reduce their operating costs and benefit from green credits as well as investments. In fact, corporate renewable PPA market has emerged as one of the fastest growing segments in the renewable energy space with specialised business models and developers.
