Egypt has granted a golden licence to Nefer Minya Renewable Energy for a renewable energy project located in West Minya. The project comprises a 1 GW solar power plant with 600 MWh of battery energy storage system (BESS). The project is being developed by a joint venture between Infinity Power Holding and HAU Energy.
Furthermore, the project is expected to require an investment of approximately $750 million. The project developers are also expecting a $170 million in financing from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Project construction is expected to be complete by September 2027.
In March 2026, Egypt formalised a series of renewable agreements covering wind, solar, and battery energy storage system projects. These include plans to establish standalone battery energy storage systems with a total capacity of 5,620 MW. One of the agreements grants land usufruct rights for the 900 MW Shokeir wind project in Ras Shokeir. Furthermore, multiple other PPAs have been signed for several renewable projects across the country.
