The report “Ensuring an Equitable Energy Transition – How the Caribbean Can Be a Model for a Resilient and Just Energy Future” has been prepared by RMI. When creating the equity considerations, more than two dozen Caribbean islanders were interviewed — including civil society, utility representatives, regulators, and government officials—to foster a holistic understanding and an actionable path forward. These equity considerations are intended to be a framework, integrating community insights and voices within various global contexts.

Though island nations contribute the least to global emissions, they feel the effects of climate change the most. Energy equity is a pathway toward climate justice, acknowledging that climate change has different social, economic, and health impacts on different populations and adjusting energy systems accordingly.
