The European Commission has approved funding of €76.3 million under CEF Energy to support three cross-border renewable energy initiatives. The projects were selected from the 2024 call for works and studies and are expected to promote cooperation across borders, expand clean energy deployment, and contribute to the European Union’s energy and climate goals.

The first project, Unified Network for Innovative Transition in Energy Decarbonisation of Heating between Poland and Germany, will receive over €18.7 million to establish renewable infrastructure and link the district heating networks of Zgorzelec in Poland and Görlitz in Germany by 2030. The second project, ULP-RES wind park, a 200 MW onshore wind farm across the border of Estonia and Latvia, has been granted €32.5 million to finance its construction.

The third project, Saare-Liivi greenfield offshore wind park in Estonian coastal waters, supported by a future statistical transfer agreement with Luxembourg, will secure €25 million to carry out pre-construction studies. The greenfield offshore wind farm will have a potential capacity of up to 1.2 GW and is targeted for completion by 2033.

Earlier this month, the European Commission approved an amendment to raise Germany’s renewable energy scheme budget by €7.9 billion. The revised framework expands tender volumes, sets a quota for biomass plants linked to heating networks, and restricts biogas production hours.
