Fidra Energy has reached financial close on its 500 MW/1.1 GWh West Burton C battery energy storage system (BESS) project located in Nottinghamshire, UK. The project received financing of around £231 million in loan facilities from a consortium of international lenders. The loan facilities consists of a term loan and ancillary facilities. Project construction is expected to commence later in 2026, with commercial operations expected in 2028.
Furthermore, Sungrow will supply the battery systems, while H&MV Engineering will deliver the 400 kV grid connection and electrical works for the project. The project is also a part of Fidra’s 4 GW UK BESS pipeline. Fidra has also signed a long-term offtake agreement with Drax Group for 50 per cent of the project’s capacity. The project has also secured a 15-year UK capacity market contract starting in October 2028.
In June 2026, Fidra Energy acquired the Enderby BESS project from Innova in Leicestershire, UK. Once operational, the project is expected to deliver up to 1,025 MW of storage capacity. The project’s final investment decision is anticipated in 2027, with commercial operations targeted for 2029.
