Fluence Energy and Excelsior Energy Capital have announced plans to deploy 2.2 GWh of battery storage projects across US starting in 2025. These projects will feature batteries, modules, and supporting systems manufactured domestically. Under the agreement, Fluence’s Gridstack Pro product line will be deployed by Excelsior. The key applications of these battery storage deployments will be to deliver firm capacity and flexible power for helping enhance grid reliability and robustness.

While battery cells for these projects will primarily be manufactured in Tennessee, battery modules will be produced in Utah. Fluence’s Gridstack Pro was announced in October 2023. It is reportedly one of the earliest such energy storage solutions that is expected to qualify as domestic content under the Inflation Reduction Act.

In April 2024, Excelsior Energy Capital secured a multiyear deal to purchase 2 GW of solar modules from Heliene, with most panels to be produced at Heliene’s Mountain Iron, Minnesota facility and a new plant near Minneapolis-St. Paul, US. This agreement aims to mitigate supply chain risks for Excelsior and marks a significant expansion for Heliene, which is focussed on U.S. growth.

REGlobal’s Views: Excelsior has been tying up with domestic manufacturers as it expands its solar and storage deployment portfolio. After its deal with Heliene for solar panels, this recent agreement with Fluence, will help safeguard the company’s future supply chains from trade-related barriers.
