Frazium Energy has entered into a €100 million contract with the government of the Southern African kingdom of Eswatini for a solar battery project. The contract has been entered for a period of 40 years. With an initial capacity of 100 MW, the project will be located at the Edwaleni Power Station in the town of Matsapha. The solar-storage facility is expected to supply over 100 million kWh per annum to various countries in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.

The solar farm will comprise 75,000 panels across 45 hectares on a total site area of 54 hectares. The project is expected to supply green power to meet the peak demand of countries in the SADC region. It will also create a minimum of 200 jobs in Eswatini.

Frazium Energy is part of the Australian-German Frazer Solar group. Earlier this year, Frazium Energy undertook a solar healthcare project in the Kingdom of Eswatini. To meet the demands of the healthcare system amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, the company provided 92 solar-powered hot water units to all the governmental medical clinics spread across Eswatini to provide free hot running water for medical purposes. The project was financed Frazer Solar with additional aid from the German Development Finance Institution, a subsidiary of the KfW development bank. Moreover, the company has expressed its intentions to invest beyond the present €100 million investment in the solar battery project, for other upcoming projects in the near future.
