Repsol, a Spanish energy firm, has awarded GE Renewable Energy a contract to construct wind turbines at six wind farms in Aragon, Spain. In accordance with the agreement, GE will provide 22 wind turbines, each with a 6.1MW capacity. The projects in the Santa Cruz I, Amp, II, and III, as well as the San Isidro I and II projects help compensate for the Delta II cluster, where the turbines will be installed. The combined capacity of these six wind farms is 133 MW, which will be sufficient to power 100,000 homes. GE will produce the turbine blades in Spain through its subsidiary, LM Wind Power, which has offices in Ponferrada (León) and Castellón.
Wind turbine towers will be manufactured in Spain as well, but the nacelles will be imported from Salzbergen, Germany. With 400 MW of capacity installed in Spain to date in partnership with Repsol, GE is already engaged in the market there. The largest renewable project in Repsol’s current development pipeline, with a total capacity of 860 MW, is the Delta II project.
In August 2022, Repsol Ibereólica Renovables Chile received financing for Project Atacama, a greenfield wind farm in northern Chile. The JV raised $118 million for the construction and operation of the 165.3 MW wind farm, which already has a long-term power purchase agreement in place. To develop, build, and operate a portfolio of renewable assets in Chile, Repsol and Ibereólica established the JV in 2020.
