GIGA Storage has secured financing for the Green Turtle battery energy storage system (BESS) project located in Dilsen-Stokkem, Belgium. The project has an installed capacity of 700 MW/2,800 MWh. A consortium of 10 international banks including ABN AMRO, ING, Rabobank, Triodos Bank, Triodos Investment Management, asr, Belfius, HCOB, Santander, and SMBC is providing €450 million in debt financing for the project.

The  remaining financing is provided by InfraVia Capital Partners. Furthermore, the project construction is scheduled to commence in September 2026, with commercial operations expected in 2028. Tesla has been selected as the EPC contractor for the project and will supply its Megablock battery technology while providing long-term project maintenance. The project will also connect directly to Elia’s 380 kV high-voltage grid, being constructed by Elia specifically for the project.

In February 2026, GIGA Storage signed a two-year route-to-market agreement with Repowered for its 12 MW/7.5 MWh Rhino BESS project. The project is located in Lelystad, Netherlands and was commissioned in 2020. The BESS can store enough electricity annually to meet the power consumption of approximately 1,000 households.  Repowered will take over the operation and optimisation of the BESS for a two year duration from April 2026.
