Greenfield Global and European Energy have signed a joint venture (JV) agreement to develop an e-methanol production facility near Montréal, Québec, Canada. The proposed facility will have an annual production capacity of 48,000 tonnes and will utilise renewable electricity and biogenic carbon dioxide from Greenfield Global’s existing ethanol operations.

The project will supply e-methanol for maritime fuels, including those requesting European renewable fuel of non-biological origin, as well as renewable polymers and other industrial applications. Preliminary engineering studies have been completed, with grid connection construction is underway, and the companies are preparing to initiate discussions with potential offtakers.

In June 2026, European Energy and ENGIE signed an agreement to develop a renewable hydrogen project in Aabenraa Municipality, Denmark. The project will feature an electrolyser with a capacity of up to 150 MW. Under the agreement, ENGIE secured marketing rights to more than 20,000 tonnes of renewable hydrogen annually, with commercial operations targeted around 2030.
