JA Solar has entered into a module supply agreement with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) for the Samarkand 1 and 2 solar power projects in Uzbekistan. Under the agreement, the company will provide all photovoltaic modules required for the two utility-scale projects. The projects are being developed by ACWA Power, with L&T serving as the engineering, procurement, and construction contractor.

Located near the city of Samarkand in central Uzbekistan, the Samarkand 1 and 2 projects will have a combined capacity of 1.2 GW. Once operational, they are expected to supply renewable electricity to a large number of households and offset over one million tonnes of carbon emissions annually. The projects forms a part of Uzbekistan’s target to source 25 per cent of its total power generation from renewable energy by 2030.

In September 2025, the Asian Development Bank and ACWA Power signed a $51 million loan agreement to finance the Nukus 2 wind and battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Uzbekistan’s Qoraozak district of Karakalpakstan. The project, to be implemented by ACWA Power Beruniy Wind FE LLC, includes the construction and operation of a 200 MW wind farm and a 100 MWh BESS facility.
