Johnson & Johnson has signed two power purchase agreements with Ørsted to procure power from Sparta Solar in Texas and Kilgarvan Wind Farm in County Kerry and Booltiagh Wind Farm 1 in County Clare, both in Ireland’s south and west. Sparta Solar’s PPA contains a 55 MW contract capacity from the 250 MW Sparta Solar project in southern Texas. Sparta Solar is a component of Helena Energy Center, a 518 MW hybrid wind and solar project.

Ørsted announced a final investment decision earlier this year and is the company’s largest onshore project to date. The PPA with Kilgarvan and Booltiagh Wind Farm 1 is an eight-year commercial agreement that will see onshore wind energy satisfy 100 per cent of Johnson & Johnson’s energy needs across its four industrial facilities in Ireland. Under the terms of the agreement with Johnson & Johnson, Ørsted will generate more than 1,000 GWh of renewable energy during the course of the PPA.

In April 2021, Ørsted entered into an agreement with Brookfield Renewable to acquire a 100 per cent equity interest in its existing Ireland and UK onshore wind business, Brookfield Renewable Ireland. With this transaction, Ørsted entered the European onshore wind market. As per the statement, Ørsted Onshore has an aim to reach 17.5 GW in 2030 and aims to deliver approximately 1.5 GW of additional capacity annually whilst growing the portfolio towards a 50:50 wind and solar PV capacity mix.
