Longroad Energy has inked a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Meta for the entire output produced by the solar project 1000 Mile. It is a 300 MWac solar project located in Yoakum County, Texas. The energy produced from this project will be supplied to the southwest power pool grid. It will contribute to meeting the energy needs of Meta’s data center operations.

Furthermore, the 1000 Mile solar project is the first project developed by Longroad within the SPP region of Texas. It is expected to commence commercial operations in 2026. This will expand Longroad’s renewable energy portfolio and support sustainable operations for its partners.

Earlier in March 2024, Longroad Energy successfully closed the financial deal for its Serrano project, a solar and storage project comprising 220 MWdc solar and 214 MWac / 855 MWh in Pinal and Pima Counties, Arizona.

In November 2024, ENGIE North America (ENGIE) and Meta finalised an Environmental Attributes Purchase Agreement (EAPA). Under the agreement, ENGIE will supply 260 MW of renewable energy along with associated environmental attributes from the Sypert Branch solar project in Texas. In May 2024, Meta, in collaboration with Solarpack, announced its plans to set to build two solar projects in Indiana. This partnership supports its recent $800 million data center investment in Indiana.

REGlobal’s Views: Meta has been using 100% renewable energy for its global operations since 2020 and the company has also reportedly reached net zero emissions. This latest deal in Texas will help Meta to continue its decarbonisation efforts. Like Meta, other large tech companies including Microsoft, Amazon, Google and Infosys have also taken large steps to source renewables for their operations.
