Manitoba Hydro has issued a request for proposals (RFP) under the Wind Call for Power initiative. The programme seeks to procure power from 600 MW of wind projects in Manitoba, Canada. Each wind project selected under the initiative must be majority owned by one or more Indigenous Nations in Manitoba. The bidding process has commenced and is scheduled to close during summer 2026. The Wind Call for Power initiative forms part of Manitoba’s Affordable Energy Plan and is also included in Manitoba Hydro’s Integrated Resource Plan.
The projects must connect to Manitoba Hydro’s grid within 20 km of one of 14 existing substations located in southern Manitoba. Manitoba Hydro plans to procure the total 600 MW of wind capacity through PPAs under multiple phases. Furthermore, The first RFP aims to select a wind project capable of supplying up to 200 MW of electricity through a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Manitoba Hydro. It is expected to have PPAs in place, and begin the development activities around 2027. All phases of the programme are anticipated to be completed and operational by 2035.
