Mauritania’s Ministry of Energy and Petroleum and CWP Global have signed an agreement for the development of the AMAN green hydrogen project. The agreement establishes the long-term contractual, fiscal, economic and development framework for the project’s next phases. The project targets annual production of 1.2 million tonnes of green hydrogen and 6.6 million tonnes of green ammonia.
Furthermore, the project, planned across 8,500 square km in northern Mauritania, is supported by up to 30 GW of hybrid wind and solar capacity. The project is also expected to support green fertiliser, clean fuels and green steel production using locally sourced iron ore. The project has reached the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) stage, with the final investment decision targeted before 2030.
In February 2026, the European Commission announced two renewable energy projects in Egypt with a combined value of approximately €124.3 million. Around €34.3 million will support the Sokhna green ammonia project, aimed at advancing green hydrogen development and related renewable energy deployment. Additionally, about €90 million will be allocated to the Egypt Grid Modernisation and Expansion programme.
