Meta has expanded its clean energy relationship with Zelestra by signing four new Environmental Attribute Purchase Agreements (EAPAs). These new EAPAs will help support the construction four new solar power projects in Hopkins, Lamar, Lampasas, and Henderson Counties in the US state of Texas. These four projects will have a combined capacity of 720 MWdc.

These solar power projects will deliver power into the ERCOT grid as part of the EAPAs and this clean power will in turn support Meta’s data centre operations. Meta and Zelestra have closed six EAPAs in total with a cumulative capacity of 800 MWac. This includes the agreements for 210 MWac from two solar plants in Indiana that were signed in April 2024. In total, Zelestra has been able to build 1 GWdc of solar projects in the US owing to these EAPAs.

Recently, Longroad Energy inked a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Meta for the entire output produced by the solar project 1000 Mile. It is a 300 MWac solar project located in Yoakum County, Texas. In addition, ENGIE North America (ENGIE) and Meta finalised an EAPA, under which, ENGIE will supply 260 MW of renewable energy along with associated environmental attributes from the Sypert Branch solar project in Texas.

REGlobal’s Views: Meta has been expanding its renewable energy procurement in the US, and Texas is an important state in this regard. The company will use this renewable energy to meet the requirements of its energy-intensive data center operations, as the company has a goal to meet its electricity usage with 100% renewable energy.
