Metacon AB has secured up to SEK 111 million in Klimatklivet funding to develop a 10 MW green hydrogen electrolysis plant at the Hovgården waste management facility in Uppsala, Sweden, covering 55 per cent of the SEK 202 million project cost. The facility is expected to produce around 1,480 tonnes of green hydrogen annually, supplying industrial users and hydrogen refuelling stations across Central Sweden. The project aims to offset approximately 23,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
The plant will integrate with Hovgården’s operations by using electrolysis-generated oxygen for leachate treatment and recovering waste heat for on-site heating. The project’s remaining investment is partly financed through assets acquired from Hynion’s bankruptcy estate. Project construction is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026, with the plant expected to become operational in the first quarter of 2029.
In October 2025, Metacon signed the final contract with Elektra Power SRL for the supply of a 7.5 MW hydrogen electrolysis plant located in Romania. Metacon was selected as a supplier for the project in September 2025. The contract is valued at approximately €7.1 million (around SEK 78.1 million) at the current exchange rate.
