Meyer Burger Technology, based in Switzerland, has announced that it will establish a manufacturing facility in Goodyear, Arizona, to produce high-performance solar modules. Meyer Burger consumers in the booming North American market will have faster and more direct access to solar modules, and become less reliant on imports due to this upcoming manufacturing facility in Arizona.

The facility’s initial annual production capacity will be 400 MW, allowing it to produce solar modules for residential, commercial, and industrial rooftop systems, as well as solar parks. Production is expected to begin by the end of 2022, providing employment to 250 people initially and 500 jobs after the 1.5 GW capacity is reached. Meyer Burger has signed a tenancy agreement as the first tenant of a newly constructed new building, at commercial rates.

In September 2021, Canadian firm Ubiquity Solar Inc. announced its plans to establish its solar manufacturing activities in New York. The operations will be located at the former IBM site in the village of Endicott in Broome County. The first phase of the project will entail an investment of roughly $61 million, under which the firm is expected to repurpose 800,000 square feet of space at the former campus.

REGlobal’s Views: This is Meyer Burger’s first solar production facility in the United States and will help expand the company’s presence in the region. With the United States expected to witness a massive uptake in solar deployment, the manufacturing unit comes at a suitable time.
