The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) has announced a framework to deploy $200 million through the state’s Sustainable Future Program to expand access to affordable solar energy. The funding will be administered through the NY-Sun Program, with incentives disbursed after project completion. It is expected to support the deployment of approximately 565 MW of solar capacity.

Around $116 million will support about 450 MW of large commercial and community solar projects, while approximately $31 million will support 75 MW of midsize commercial, government, and multifamily rooftop projects. The programme also includes incentives for projects using carports, brownfields, landfills, floating solar, and agrivoltaics, as well as continued support for solar in multifamily affordable housing.

Furthermore, $20 million will support around 40 MW of on-site solar for low- and moderate-income homeowners, with a focus on households facing higher economic pressure and a greater need for lower electricity bills. Additionally, approximately $33 million will be available through flexible market funding, which will be directed toward sectors with the strongest demand and greatest need for support.
