NextEra Energy Transmission New York Inc, part of US utility group NextEra Energy Inc, has submitted proposals to build the transmission lines that will carry power from offshore wind farms in the Atlantic Ocean to points in New York and Long Island. The ideas were sent in response to the Long Island Offshore Wind Public Policy Transmission Need, which was issued by the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO). The plans, it added, are aimed to assure reliable and cost-effective offshore wind power delivery by accommodating changing amounts of Long Island offshore wind injections.
As per a company release, Long Island offshore wind injections are accommodated in various levels by the transmission designs proposed. Each proposal has been created to ensure that offshore wind energy is delivered in a reliable and cost-effective manner to New York power customers. The proposals include cost containment mechanisms that reduce financial risk to New York customers, as well as NextEra Energy Transmission’s confidence in its ability to deliver, given its track record of completing major infrastructure projects on time and on budget.
NextEra Energy Transmission is a company that develops, finances, builds, and maintains transmission infrastructure all throughout the United States. NextEra Energy Transmission integrates renewable energy and strengthens the electric grid through its regional subsidiaries. In California, New York, Texas, and Ontario, the company’s subsidiaries were among the first non-incumbents to be awarded projects by system operators and utility commissions.
REGlobal’s Views: The United States is planning extensive capacity in the offshore wind space which will require adequate transmission infrastructure both onshore and offshore. This will create many opportunities for large companies like NextEra Energy Transmission in the coming years to expand their portfolios.
