OMV Petrom and Complexul Energetic Oltenia (CE Oltenia) have commenced construction on their solar parks in Romania, which have a cumulative installed capacity of around 550 MW. TThe development comprises four solar parks that are located in Ișalnița, Tismana, and Rovinari. OMV Petrom and CE Oltenia are developing the projects as equal partners, each holding a 50 per cent stake. They are scheduled to become operational in 2026.
The total investment for the projects exceeds approximately €400 million, with about 70 per cent of the financing coming from the Modernisation Fund. Additionally, the first tranche of this funding, amounting to around €16 million, was received in December 2025. Once operational, the electricity generated from these projects is expected to meet the annual consumption equivalent of approximately 410,000 households, supporting national and European climate objectives.
In September 2025, OMV Petrom completed the acquisition of a 50 per cent stake in the Gabare solar project in Bulgaria, following the transaction announced in June 2025. The Gabare project, located in the Byala Slatina region, has an estimated capacity of 400 MW and is expected to generate around 0.6 TWh of electricity annually, supported by solar trackers. Moreover, OMV Petrom and the project company will enter into a long-term power purchase agreement under which OMV Petrom will procure 50 per cent of the project’s future power output.
