OMV Petrom has completed the delivery of all seven modules for its 35 MW green hydrogen electrolyser at the Petrobrazi refinery in Romania. The project, supplied by Neuman & Esser, consists of seven 5 MW electrolysis modules and is currently being integrated into the refinery infrastructure. Together with the earlier announced 20 MW electrolyser, Petrobrazi’s total green hydrogen production capacity will reach 55 MW.
Furthermore, the project has received approximately €29 million in funding under Romania’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). Once operational, the new electrolyser is expected to produce around 4,700 tonnes of green hydrogen annually using renewable electricity. The combined 55 MW projects are expected to produce approximately 8,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually for use in refining processes and the production of sustainable aviation fuel and hydrotreated vegetable oil.
In June 2026, OMV Petrom made the final investment decision for the Gabare integrated solar and BESS project in Bulgaria. The project includes an approximately 415 MWp solar plant and a 600 MWh BESS, with total investments of approximately €300 million. The project is jointly owned by OMV Petrom and Enery, with each holding a 50 per cent stake. The project has received the necessary permits, with first power generation targeted for 2028.
