OnPath Energy has planned to invest around £1 billion for onshore wind project developments in partnership with Wilson Forest Products over the next five years. This includes the development of the Bankend Rig II, Bankend Rig III, and Hawkwood Wind Farm projects in Southern Scotland. The projects will include a total of 18 turbines with a combined generation capacity of 121 MW and will generate enough electricity to supply around 150,000 homes annually.
Furthermore, planning approvals for Bankend Rig II and III were secured in 2025, while Hawkwood Wind Farm was recently approved by South Lanarkshire Council subject to final legal agreements. The sites are located southwest of OnPath Energy’s existing Kype Muir Wind Farm. Both the companies have also earlier partnered on the nearby Mill Rig Wind Farm.
In February 2026, OnPath Energy secured a contract for difference for the Lethans Extension Wind Farm in East Ayrshire under the UK government’s latest Allocation Round Seven at a strike price of £72.24/MWh. The project features deployment of 10 wind turbines. Project construction is expected to commence in late 2027 with operations expected in 2029.
REGlobal’s Views: Acquired by Brookfield Global Transition Fund in 2023, OnPath Energy (formerly called Banks Renewables) current presence in southern Scotland has reached 500 MW with these 121 MW of projects. The company is also exploring projects in Wales and England to expand its overall renewable energy portfolio in the UK.
