Eni-controlled Plenitude has announced the signing of a 10-year corporate power purchase agreement with Ferriera Valsabbia. This agreement will cater to the supply of energy produced 100 per cent from renewable sources for the Italian steel maker Ferriera Valsabbia. The agreement covers the full energy output of a 15 MW wind farm which is owned by Plenitude. The said wind farm is located in Sannicandro di Bari, Apulia, Italy.

Furthermore, the wind power projects is expected to produced a total of more than 350 GWh over the entire contract period. It is anticipated to contribute to meeting the energy needs of Ferriera Valsabbia’s facilities through renewables starting in September 2024.

Plenitude operates in the energy sector with a unique business model that combines renewable energy production, energy sales, and solutions. It also has an extensive network of electric vehicle charging points. In July 2024, Plenitude completed the construction of a new onshore wind farm in Calabria, Italy, with a capacity of over 39 MW. The plant features nine modern wind turbines and is anticipated to produce 84 GWh of electricity every year.

REGlobal’s Views: Energy intensive manufacturing industries across steel, cement, chemicals textiles and others are increasingly moving towards renewables to reduce their carbon emissions and secure their future energy supply with affordable renewable power. Many such steel manufacturing are also adopting green hydrogen to produce green steel and planning to adopt carbon capture and storage technologies to offset carbon emissions.
