Qair has secured €55 million in financing to support the pending construction of the Hyd’Occ renewable hydrogen production facility at Port-La Nouvelle in Occitanie, France and five refuelling stations along key regional transport routes. The funding was arranged in partnership with Crédit Agricole and Bpifrance. The first production unit of the Hyd’Occ facility is scheduled to be commissioned by the end of 2025.
Furthermore, the Hyd’Occ facility represents an integrated ecosystem for producing, transporting, and distributing renewable hydrogen. The initial 20 MW phase will produce 2,700 tonnes of hydrogen annually. The facility’s capacity will be expanded to 40 MW in the second phase, bringing the production output to 5,400 tonnes of hydrogen annually. The project is backed by offtake agreements for more than 1,500 tonnes of hydrogen annually with players such as Plug Power and Hydromer.
Additionally, the facility will supply hydrogen to a regional mobility network that includes the Narbonne and Béziers refuelling stations. These are a part of the “Corridor H2” initiative which iwill link the Iberian Peninsula to Northern Europe. It is supported by the Occitanie region, the European Investment Bank, and the European Union’s Connecting Europe Facility.
REGlobal’s Views: Along with renewable energy, Qair is also expanding its green hydrogen capacity in different geographies of the world. Apart from the Hyd’Occ facility, it is developing the Methavert project, which is an e-methanol facility targetting 200,000 tonnes of e-methanol per year at the Haropa Port site in Le Havre. Further, the company is developing the Katanes project in Iceland with 840 MW green ammonia as well as a green hydrogen and ammonia project at Pecém Industrial Port in Brazil. Apart from the production unit itself, the company is also involved in the deployment of hydrogen distribution infrastructure like fueling stations.
