The Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority has granted Russian nuclear power company Rosatom permission to construct El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant Unit I. Four power units with a combined capacity of 1.2 GW will be included in the nuclear project, which will be constructed in the Mediterranean city of El Dabaa. The project documentation required for obtaining the permit to build four power units at the El-Dabaa nuclear station was sent in 2021 by the Russian nuclear energy company.

With the help of the site’s excavation work and the permit, Rosatom will be able to start the main construction projects at the nuclear power plant site. According to the agreement, Rosatom will be responsible for providing nuclear fuel during the plant’s lifetime. During the first ten years of operation, it will also support operation and service, and train the personnel. Rosatom has also agreed to construct a specialised storage unit and to provide containers for the storage of spent nuclear fuel under a separate agreement.
