Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) has issued a request for qualification (RFQ) for the seventh round of solar and wind projects under the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP) led by the Ministry of Energy. The round covers a total capacity of 5,300 MW, comprising four solar photovoltaic projects and two wind projects across different regions of the country.

The solar projects include the 1,400 MW Tabarjal Two project in Al-Jouf, the 600 MW Mawqaq project in Hail, the 600 MW Tathleeth project in Aseer, and the 500 MW South Al Ula project in Madinah. The wind projects consist of the 1,300 MW Bilghah project and the 900 MW Shagran project, both located in the Madinah region.

SPPC will be responsible for feasibility studies, tendering, and concluding power purchase agreements (PPAs) with developers. Furthermore, SPPC has launched renewable projects with a capacity of more than 43 GW, of which PPAs have already been signed for over 38 GW of renewable projects.

Earlier this month, Saudi Arabia’s Research, Development, and Innovation Authority (RDI) signed an MoU with Stargate Hydrogen to collaborate on green hydrogen, focusing on technology transfer, strengthening the regional hydrogen value chain, and advancing industrial decarbonisation.

REGlobal’s Views: Saudi Arabia has plans to increase the share of renewables in the country’s energy mix to around 50% by 2030. Such large auctions are playing an important part in promoting renewable energy development in the country and attracting investments. As of July 2025, SPPC’s total signed PPA capacity crossed 38 GW out of the 43.2 GW launched since the start of the NREP.
