ScottishPower has inked an agreement worth over £1 billion with Siemens Gamesa. As a part of this deal, Siemens Gamesa will provide turbine blades for ScottishPower’s £4 billion East Anglia TWO offshore wind farm. The East Anglia TWO project will have the capacity to produce up to 960 MW of renewable electricity. The project was won in the new UK Government’s Contracts for Difference Allocation Round 6 (AR6) in September 2024.
Under the agreement, Siemens Gamesa will deliver 64 of its SG 14-236 DD turbines, each with a 236-metre rotor diameter. Furthermore, the blades will be produced at Siemens Gamesa’s blade factory in Hull. This contract follows ScottishPower’s commitment to double its investments in UK from £12 billion to £24 billion between 2024 and 2028.
Earlier in 2024, Siemens Gamesa won a contract from Polenergia and Equinor to supply turbines for the offshore Bałtyk II and Bałtyk III wind farms in Poland. As per the contacts, the companies have placed an order for the manufacturing, delivery, and servicing of wind turbines for the projects.
REGlobal’s Views: ScottishPower has three wind farms in its portfolio in East Anglia, UK. East Anglia ONE in already in operation and East Anglia THREE is under construction. Meanwhile, supply chain is being put in place for East Anglia TWO. Interestingly, all these windfarms are equipped with Siemens Gamesa turbines. This shows industry confidence in Siemens Gamesa and this deal will cement the company’s position in the UK offshore wind market.
