Sembcorp Industries has completed the full acquisition of Alinta Energy. The acquisition was completed through Sembcorp’s wholly owned subsidiaries – Sembcorp Energy Australia Pty Ltd and Sembcorp Energy Australia Pte Ltd. The acquisition follows Sembcorp’s announcement in December 2025 to acquire Alinta from Chow Tai Fook Enterprises. Alinta Energy has been under the ownership of Chow Tai Fook since 2017.

The transaction adds Alinta’s 3.4 GW operating portfolio and 10.4 GW development pipeline to Sembcorp’s energy platform. Alinta will continue to operate under its existing brand and organisational structure. Sembcorp will also retain the company’s current management team.

In December 2025, Sembcorp through its wholly-owned subsidiary Sembcorp Green Infra Private Limited, completed the acquisition of ReNew Sun Bright Private Limited from ReNew Private Limited in India. ReNew Sun Bright owns and operates a 300 MW solar power project located in Rajasthan, India.

In November 2025, Nama Power and Water Procurement Company signed a 20-year power purchase agreement with Sembcorp Utilities and OQ Alternative Energy (OQAE) to develop the 125 MW Dhofar II Wind Power Project in Oman. The joint venture between Sembcorp and OQAE will build, own, and operate the project, which will supply electricity to Nama PWP once completed.

REGlobal’s Views: This large acquisition provides Sembcorp with a well established platform and local market expertise to expand its reach in Australia – a rapidly growing renewable power market. An added advantage is that the under development 10.4 GW of capacity consists not just renewables but firming systems as well which will support grid reliability objectives, especially considering the rapid growth of renewables.
