Shell and Eneco have agreed to work jointly on the offshore wind tender process for the Hollandse Kust (west) (HKW) VI and VII lots, which are located off the coast of the Netherlands.  The two companies will submit their bids through their two joint venture firms, Ecowende and SchakelWind. Ecowende will bid for HKW VI, while SchakelWind will submit an offer for HKW VII. HKW VI and VII, which are 53 km off the Dutch coast, will be able to meet 6 per cent of the country’s total electricity demand. Both facilities are slated to commence in 2026.

Shell and Eneco’s Ecowende JV aims to produce offshore wind farms with a net positive impact. SchakelWind aims to set a “new benchmark” for the integration of offshore wind farms into the Dutch energy system. The JV intends to invest with firms across the country in order to improve offshore wind energy in the Dutch national grid and energy systems.

In May 2022, Shell Overseas Investment B.V., a wholly owned subsidiary of Shell, agreed to acquire a 100 per cent stake of Solenergi Power Private Limited and the Sprng Energy group of companies for $1.55 billion from Actis Solenergi Limited. The deal is expected to almost triple Shell’s renewable energy capacity in operation, as the company strives to become a net-zero emissions firm by the year 2050.
