Siemens Gamesa has signed a 50 MW deal with EnergieKontor UK Ltd to supply its SG 5.8-155 turbines, to the subsidy-free Longhill Burn wind farm near Edinburgh.
This is the first deal in UK for the Siemens Gamesa 5.X platform. This model has a 155-metre rotor and a flexible rating capability to 6.6 MW. The wind turbine order is accompanied by a 25-year full-scope service agreement.
Since its launch in April 2019, the Siemens Gamesa 5.X platform has now recorded over 2.3 GW in sales, with major contracts to supply wind farms in Sweden, Brazil, Finland and now the UK. Earlier this year Siemens Gamesa secured an order to supply 70 wind turbines for a 434 MW wind power plant located in the north-east Rio Grande do Norte state. This was part of orders for its 5.X platform. The contract is to supply SG 5.8-170 turbines with OptimaFlex technology, which have been enhanced to operate at 6.2 MW. Another order secured in the past few months was an order in Vietnam for a 117 MW wind farm. Located in the Ninh Thuan province, the 117 MW Hanbaram wind farm is the first renewable energy project to be developed by local independent power producer, Hanbaram Wind Power JSC, and will generate enough electricity to power the demands of 248,000 people.
