Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energies (SGRE) has announced that its 5.X platform turbines will be powering the 372-MW Bjornberget wind project in Sweden. The project is owned by German independent asset manager Prime Capital AG and Israeli power producer Enlight Renewable Energy. The two companies unveiled the acquisition of the project from its developer RES and said talks are already ongoing for a 10-12 year power purchase agreement (PPA) for about 50 per cent of the wind farm’s output.
Under its largest order to date for its 5.X platform turbines, SGRE will deliver 60 units of its SG 5.8-170 machines in a 6.2-MW mode. While project construction is slated to begin in 2020, turbine installation will be carried out in 2022. Once brought online, the power plant in Ange, central Sweden, will be capable of producing about 1.1 TWh of electricity per year that will be enough to supply around 300,000 European households.
The Siemens Gamesa turbines will be certified for a 30-year lifetime and will come with a 15-year service agreement. With this deal, Siemens Gamesa’s firm orders for turbines of its 5.X platform have reached almost 1 GW. The platform was introduced to the market in April 2019.
