Sonoco Products Company and ENGIE North America have commenced electricity delivery under a virtual power purchase agreement (VPP) linked to the Big Sampson wind project in Crockett county, Texas. The agreement covers an estimated 140 MW of electricity annually for a 15-year term starting from the project’s commercial operation. The project was completed in late 2025 and consists of 60 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 4.5 MW.
The contracted volume under the agreement represents around 83 per cent of Sonoco’s electricity consumption in US in 2025 and accounts for about 52 per cent of the expected output from the project. Furthermore, renewable energy credits associated with the VPPA are expected to lower the company’s baseline carbon emissions by around 19 per cent. It supports Sonoco’s corporate emissions reduction objectives, which target a 25 per cent cut in global Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2030 compared to a 2020 baseline.
In January 2026, ENGIE signed a 10-year biomethane purchase agreement with PepsiCo UK. Under the agreement, ENGIE will construct a new anaerobic digestion facility in northern England with an annual biomethane production capacity of 60 GWh. All output from the plant will be contracted to PepsiCo through a mass balance mechanism, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2027 once the facility becomes operational.
