Vårgrønn has inked an agreement to acquire a 27.4 per cent stake in the currently operational Baltic 2 offshore wind farm (288 MW) from PGGM Infrastructure Fund. Upon completion of the deal, the Baltic 2 offshore wind farm will be jointly owned by EnBW with a 50.1 per cent stake, Vårgrønn holding 27.4 per cent, and Ärzteversorgung Westfalen-Lippe holding a 22.5 per cent share. EnBW will manage the operations and maintenance of the project.

The Baltic 2 wind farm has been operational since September 2015 and consists of 80 Siemens turbines (3.6 MW each), producing approximately 1,200 GWh annually and powering 340,000 homes, while reducing carbon emissions by around 900,000 tonnes per year.

The German offshore wind market has seen significant investments this year. In May 2024, RWE made the final investment decision for the Nordseecluster, a group of four offshore wind projects with a combined capacity of 1.6 GW. Meanwhile, EnBW commenced the construction of the 960 MW He Dreiht offshore wind farm in the North Sea, with an investment of approximately €2.4 billion.
