Vattenfall and the Danish Energy Agency have signed the final agreements for the development of two offshore wind projects in Denmark, Hesselø and Holmsland. The projects were awarded to Vattenfall in Denmark’s latest offshore wind tender in August 2026. Both projects are expected to add at least 1.8 GW of offshore wind capacity and are scheduled to become operational by 2032.

Earlier, in October 2026, Vattenfall awarded Fluence Energy the contract to deliver its planned battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Brunsbüttel, Germany. The project will have an installed capacity of 254 MW/1,000 MWh. It will be built at the site of a nuclear power plant that is currently being decommissioned. Fluence will deliver the project on a turnkey basis, covering engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning, along with long-term service support.

In September 2026, Vattenfall took the final investment decision (FID) to build a standalone BESS project at the former Brunsbüttel nuclear power plant site in Germany. The project will have an installed capacity of 254 MW/1,000 MWh and will be connected to the 50Hertz 380 kV transmission grid. The project, expected to be operational by the end of 2028, will nearly double Vattenfall’s BESS capacity.
