Vestas Wind Systems A/S has outlined plans to establish a nacelle and hub manufacturing facility in Scotland, UK. The proposed investment exceeds €250 million and is aimed at supporting rising offshore wind demand across the UK and Europe. The facility is expected to manufacture nacelles and hubs for the V236-15.0 MW offshore wind turbine platform. Additionally, Vestas will assess opportunities to co-locate key component suppliers alongside the facility.

The final investment decision remains dependent on securing sufficient domestic project orders under Contract for Difference (CfD) Allocation Round 7 and Allocation Round 8 auctions. Furthermore, timelines for execution will be subject to planning approvals and auction outcomes. Subject to these conditions, production at the facility could commence by 2029/2030.

In February 2026, RWE entered into an agreement with Vestas for the supply of offshore wind turbines for the Vanguard West project in UK. Under the agreement, Vestas will supply, deliver, and commission 92 of V236-15.0 MW offshore turbines. The contract follows the project securing a CfD in Allocation Round 7 and the establishment of a partnership between RWE and KKR to jointly develop the Vanguard projects.

REGlobal’s Views: The UK is already one of the leaders in offshore wind deployment with highly competitive tariffs discovered in past auctions. Further, a significant pipeline is under development, and almost 8 GW of new projects were allocated in the CfD Allocation Round 7 in January 2026. New auctions are being planned, and the next allocation round will open in July 2026. These impressive prospects for new project activity makes the country an ideal location for OEMs like Vestas to set up their manufacturing units.
