AES Andes, a south American power company, has begun the permitting process for a 258 MW wind farm in Bio Bio, Chile. The Rinconada wind farm is planned to have 43 turbines, each with a capacity of 6 MW, as well as the necessary transmission infrastructure.

The environmental impact statement (EIS) for the Rinconada wind project was filed recently by the Santiago based company. According to the statement, the investment is anticipated to reach $365 million. Furthermore,  AES Andes aims to begin building on the site, which is located between the communes of Laja and Los Angele in December 2023. The commissioning of the wind farm is expected to take place in December 2025. In July, 2021, AES Andes sold its 49 per cent stake in its Chilean renewable energy affiliate to fund manager Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) for $441 million.

Germany and Chile recently signed a letter of intent for a bilateral alliance on hydrogen production and trade to enable a renewable energy hydrogen supply chain between the nations. Under this, a green hydrogen working group would be created as a part of the Chilean-German Energy Association (AEE). The collaboration also seeks to enhance the development of low-carbon emission certification systems and to encourage the cooperative development of research, pilot, and demonstration projects.
