Amara Raja Infra, a subsidiary of the Indian battery maker Amara Raja Group, has been awarded a contract to develop a 100 MW solar facility in Bangladesh. The contract was secured from the Rural Power Company, a state-owned company in Bangladesh responsible for rural electrification in the country. The project will be developed by Amara Raja in association with solar module maker Premier Solar Powertech.

Reportedly, the solar power facility would be developed at Madarganj, in the Jamalpur district, at a cost of $130 million. It is being funded by EXIM Bank of India, a government-owned financial institution. Amara Raja’s scope of work comprises the engineering, design, supply, installation, and commissioning of the solar plant. By the end of 2024, the 100 MW solar project is anticipated to be finished. Following that, the Indian company will provide complete operation and maintenance services for an additional two years along with a warranty for parts and supplies.

In May 2023, Amara Raja announced its plans to establish Telangana’s first gigafactory for lithium cell and battery pack manufacturing. The gigafactory is expected to employ approximately 4,500 people directly and a comparable number indirectly. The production facility would have a capacity of up to 16 GWh and would serve both domestic and foreign markets.
