2030 Report: Powering America’s Clean Economy

This report by Goldman School of Public Policy uses the latest renewable energy and battery cost data to demonstrate the technical and economic feasibility of achieving 80 percent clean (carbon-free) electricity in the United States by 2030. Two central cases are simulated using state-of-the-art capacity-expansion and production-cost models: the No New Policy case assumes continuation of current state and federal policies; and the 80% Clean case requires that a national 80 percent clean electricity share is reached by 2030, along with aggressive transportation electrification.

Cleaning techniques for floating solar systems

Dust and soils have negative impacts on the efficiency of PV panels. Therefore, the importance of cleaning PV panels is considerable from both economic and performance points of view. A key factor to maximizing the economic advantage is the determination of cleaning times. There is no specified cleaning cycle for PV panels, and the soiling rate of the region mostly determines the cleaning frequency.

China has a grand carbon neutrality target but where is the plan?

As the world’s largest greenhouse-gas emitter, China will make or break the global quest for climate neutrality by the middle of the century – the only way to limit the global average temperature increase to 1.5°C. Consequently, President Xi’s announcement in September 2020 of China’s new objective to peak CO2 emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060 was broadly welcomed. But President Xi offered no detail on how China could turn this vision into reality, and an examination of China’s current plans shows clearly the goal will not be achieved without major changes.
