Korea will invest $600 million in renewable energy alongside AfDB

The African Development Bank, the Korean Ministry of Economy and Finance, and the Export-Import Bank of Korea have signed an agreement under which South Korea will co-finance energy projects with the African Development Bank for $600 million. Korea’s funds will be invested in renewable energy generation, transmission, and distribution through the Korea Eximbank.

Fortum to sell 500 MW of its Indian solar assets to Actis

Fortum has decided to divest 500 MW of solar projects in India and has signed an agreement with the global infrastructure investment firm Actis for the same. As part of the agreement, Actis will receive ownership of the 250 MW Pavagada II and the 250 MW Rajasthan solar power plants.

Nordex provides wind turbines for a 200 MW project in Finland

The Nordex Group has received orders from a Finnish wind farm developer for four N163/5.X turbines with a total capacity of 199.5 MW. The turbines will also be serviced for a duration of 30 years under the Premium Service agreement. The wind farms will be built in the heart of Finland’s mid-west area, as well as in the west, along the shore in the Ostrobothnia region.

ABB and Axpo partner on developing a green hydrogen pilot project in Italy

IKEA to promote renewable energy procurement at its suppliers in various nations

Swedish furniture company IKEA has recently announced a program to secure 100 per cent renewable electricity at direct suppliers in India, China, and Poland, which are some of its largest purchasing countries. The said program will be introduced in 2021, followed by a stepwise global roll-out. As more than 65 per cent of the company’s climate footprint is linked to its supply chain, it is aiming for 100 per cent renewable energy throughout its entire value chain.

Sudanese bank launches a $11.3 million green sukuk

The Sudanese bank, Sanabel, a subsidiary of the Bank of Khartoum recently launched the African country’s first green sukuk. The $11.3 million (4.75 billion Sudanese pounds) investment fund will finance renewable energy projects for commercial use. According to the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institution (AAOIFI), sukuk are securities of equal denomination representing individual ownership interests in a portfolio of eligible existing or future assets.
