EIB and FirstRand Bank to invest €400 million in South African renewable projects

South Africa’s renewable energy projects have received a funding of €400 million announced by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and FirstRand Bank Ltd. This joint effort includes a €200 million loan from the EIB, matched by FirstRand Bank. Moreover the aim of this initiative is to boost solar photovoltaic, wind and energy efficiency projects in the country.

Akaysha Energy obtains A$650 million in funding for Orana BESS

The Orana battery energy storage system (BESS) project in New South Wales, Australia, has reached an agreement for A$650 million with Akaysha Energy. Situated in the Central West Orana renewable energy zone, the Orana project will be built with funding from the three-year facility. The project is scheduled to be online in 2026 with a 1,660 MWh of projected capacity.

SSE and Equinor to agree preliminary terms for Dogger Bank D

SSE and Equinor, co-developers of the proposed Dogger Bank D fourth phase of Dogger Bank Wind Farm, have filed a Scoping Report to the Planning Inspectorate. This comes after the Transitional Centralised Strategic Network Plan (tCSNP2) was released by National Grid ESO in March 2024. It contained confirmation that Dogger Bank D will connect to Birkhill Wood, a projected 400kV substation in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

Rolls-Royce supplies 32.6 MW battery at Zeewolde wind farm in Netherlands

Rolls-Royce Holdings has announced an order for a 32.6-MW/65.2-MWh battery storage system to supplement the Zeewolde wind farm in the Netherlands. The turn-key contract is from Battery Park Zeewolde and includes a 10-year maintenance agreement. Rolls-Royce’s mtu EnergyPack QG system is set to launch in the summer of 2025. It will help the client in the markets for grid services and energy trading.

Siemens Energy, Energinet sign $1.52 billion deal to upgrade Denmark’s grid

Siemens Energy has received a $1.52 billion contract from Energinet, the Danish state-owned grid operator, to improve Denmark’s electrical infrastructure. Over the next eight years, Siemens Energy is contracted to supply transformers and switchgear for about fifty new or renovated 150kV high-voltage substations. The project, which includes a four-year initial phase valued at up to €800 million, is essential to Denmark’s energy transformation plan.

EnBW to start construction on 960 MW German offshore wind farm

EnBW, a German electric company, has started building the 960 MW He Dreiht offshore wind farm in the North Sea. An investment of €2.4 billion is required for the project, which was given to EnBW in 2017. Once completed, it will be Germany’s largest offshore wind farm. The location of the He Dreiht offshore wind farm is around 110 km west of Helgoland and 85 km north-west of Borkum.
