An international tender for the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) of a 68 MW solar PV park in Bangladesh’s Sirajganj area has been issued. The Bangladesh China Renewable Energy Company Ltd, a joint venture between Bangladesh’s North-West Power Generation Company Limited and the China National Machinery Import and Export Corporation, has launched the bid, which includes the construction of a 15km 132 kV double circuit transmission line with a substation bay extension.
The 68 MW PV project is part of a Bangladesh-China collaboration to build 450 MW of solar power and a 50 MW wind farm in Bangladesh. The initiatives are anticipated to cost approximately $500 million in China. Bidders must also have at least seven years of relevant experience prior to the bid submission deadline and have worked on at least two PV projects of 50 MW or more outside of Bangladesh in the last five years.
A consortium of EPC contractors, developers, and suppliers recently requested government involvement in order to get a six-month commercial operation date extension with no demand for liquidated damages.
Bangladesh now generates 766.61 MW of power from renewable energy, 532.62 MW of which is solar. Bidders must submit technical and financial proposals by September 26, 2021. Covid-19 has slowed the installation of solar power projects in Bangladesh. However, building on a number of projects will commence after the pandemic crisis has subsided.
