Boskalis, a Dutch dredging and offshore contractor has won two big contracts for the transportation and installation of the export and array cables for the 1.5 GW Baltica 2 offshore wind farm in the Polish section of the Baltic Sea. Polish utility PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna SA and Denmark’s Ørsted A/S gave two deals to the company. Reportedly, the order is valued at over $ 322.5 million.

Overall, the scope of work involves the transportation and installation of four 275 kV export cables totaling about 300 km and 107 array cables totaling more than 150 km in length. Boskalis is also in charge of carrying out seabed preparation tasks such as levelling the seabed, pre-trenching, and removing boulders. Two cable-laying vessels, a construction support vessel, a subsea rock installation vessel and a trailing suction hopper dredger will be deployed by the company. Preparatory work is anticipated to start in 2025 and the transport and installation activities are scheduled to commence in 2027.

In April 2023, GE Renewable Energy secured a contract from PGE Odnawialna in Poland to replace four 125 MW pumped turbines and generators at Porabka Zar pumped hydro storage plant. GE Hydro Solutions designed, manufactured and supplied equipment and provided the excitation and governing systems, as well as replaced the 40-year-old turbines with new high-efficiency pumped turbines and motor generators.
