Brookfield Asset Management and its affiliates (Brookfield) have announced the sale of a 1.6 GW portfolio of solar and wind assets in India to Gentari Renewables India (Gentari) in a two-phase transaction. With this, the first phase, involving the sale of 1 GW of operational assets, has been successfully completed.
Brookfield currently has an installed capacity of around 46 GW and a development pipeline of approximately 200 GW. Its assets, spanning North and South America, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region, encompass a diverse mix of hydroelectric, wind, utility-scale solar, and energy storage facilities. In India, Brookfield’s portfolio includes roughly 40 GW of wind and solar assets that are either operational, under construction, or in development.
Gentari Renewables India, an indirect subsidiary of Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas), focuses on providing clean energy solutions, including renewable energy, hydrogen, and green mobility. TIn January 2025, the Competition Commission of India approved Gentari Renewables India’s acquisition of 21 special purpose vehicles (SPVs) and the holding companies of certain SPVs. These entities are engaged in the generation and sale of solar and wind power.
REGlobal’s Views: This acquisition aligns with Gentari’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy portfolio in India. The company has been bidding and winning new renewable power projects in the country and has also been focusing on increasing its portfolio through acquisition of high quality assets.
