Carbon Governance Pte Ltd, a Singapore-based green energy project development company, recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a local partner company in Bintan, Indonesia, for a long-term lease of land to develop a solar-based green hydrogen production and export facility. The solar farm is expected to generate enough power to run the electrolysers with a planned production capacity of 30,000 kg of green hydrogen per day using high efficiency bi-facial solar panels.

The green hydrogen will be exported to nearby countries where demand is anticipated to rise over the following few decades. In line with the emission targets established during COP26, which was held in 2021, ambitious green policy targets of regional countries have also contributed to the anticipated rise in demand. The preliminary engineering design process started after feasibility studies were finished. In January 2023, the process for selecting partners for electrolyser technology will start. In the fourth quarter of 2023, the Bintan Green Hydrogen project is anticipated to complete financial close, and in the first quarter of 2027, green hydrogen exports to Southeast Asia are anticipated to begin.
