Elcogen secures €24.9 million EU grant for green hydrogen production

Elcogen has been selected for the European Union’s 2024 Innovation Fund grant in Tallinn, Estonia. The grant, totaling €24.9 million, will support Elcogen’s expansion of its production capacity for solid oxide electrolyser cell (SOEC) and solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) components in Estonia. This grant will aid in the transition to green energy and the efficient production of green hydrogen.

EIB and Iberdrola ink €120 million energy loan in Spain

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has signed a €120 million loan with Iberdrola to support the advancement of energy technology research and innovation, accelerating the electrification and decarbonisation of the economy. The total investment linked to these projects is valued at €250 million. This funding will be directed toward the development of renewable energy technologies, including solar photovoltaic, hydro, and wind power, as well as hybrid and agrovoltaic projects.

Lhyfe and KEYOU ink MoU for hydrogen mobility in Germany

Lhyfe has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with KEYOU to advance hydrogen mobility in Germany and Europe. Lhyfe is constructing a production plant in Schwäbisch Gmünd, near Stuttgart, Germany, which is expected to be operational by year-end. The facility will produce up to 4 tonnes of green hydrogen daily (with a 10 MW installed capacity). Lhyfe has secured a 15-year corporate PPA with EDP Renewables to ensure a steady supply of renewable electricity.

Hydrogen Electrolyser Manufacturing in India: Report

India has set an ambitious target of producing 5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of green hydrogen by 2030 with an aim to mitigate 50 million tonnes of CO2 and reduce energy imports by INR 1 lakh crore. Electrolysers play a critical role in the green hydrogen production process and constitute 30–50 per cent of the total cost of green hydrogen.  The electrolyser market in India is expected to grow to 20 GW by 2030, 112 GW by 2040, and 226 GW by 2050. The report indicates that about 72 per cent of the PEM electrolyser manufacturing cost can be readily indigenised.

VNG AG to import green hydrogen from Algeria

VNG AG has signed a letter of intent with Algerian energy firms Sonatrach and Sonelgaz, SNAM, SeaCorridor, and VERBUND. The agreement reflects the commitment of these companies to jointly assess the feasibility of large-scale green hydrogen production in Algeria and its export from North Africa via the proposed “South H2 Corridor” to Italy, Austria, and Germany.

Potential of low-emissions hydrogen in Latin American and Caribbean Region

Based on announced projects, Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) could produce over 7 Mtpa of low-emissions hydrogen by 2030, but only about 0.1% of these projects is in operation, under construction or has reached a final investment decision. Deployment is still nascent. The high cost of capital in the region remains a barrier, and could undermine the competitive production costs from its strong renewable resources. In addition, a massive expansion of renewable capacity would be needed – if all hydrogen projects in the pipeline come to fruition, wind and solar PV generation would need to increase by 140% within this decade for hydrogen production alone.  Action is required in the short term to unlock LAC’s potential, balancing domestic demand with export ambitions.

Pupuk Indonesia to procure green hydrogen from PLN and ACWA

PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) has signed a Head of Key Terms (HoT) agreement for green hydrogen procurement with ACWA Power, as well as PLN Energi Primer Indonesia and PLN Indonesia Power. This agreement will ensure availability of green hydrogen as the main raw material for green ammonia production for Pupuk Indonesia. The green ammonia, thus produced, will be used by Pupuk Indonesia for making urea and NPK fertilizers.

Infener to build 20 MW green hydrogen hub in Germany

Infener has teamed up with the city of Gengenbach to plan a 20 MW green hydrogen hub. The facility aims to generate up to 2,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year, supplying the Ortenau district with decentralised, climate-neutral, and cost-efficient energy. The green hydrogen will be produced using water electrolysis, powered by renewable energy in grid-supporting H2 hubs.
