rPlus Hydro files draft application for pumped storage project

rPlus Hydro, a subsidiary of the US-based renewable energy firm rPlus Energies, has submitted a draft licence application for the Seminoe Pumped Storage project in Wyoming. The application was submitted to state and federal agencies as part of the proposed pumped hydro energy storage project’s multi-year study and approval process, which will have a capacity of up to 900 MW.

GIG and Hydro Rein to develop 586 MW hybrid project in Brazil

Green Investment Group (GIG), a Macquarie-owned company, and Hydro Rein have agreed to form a joint venture to build and operate a 586 MW wind and solar power plant in Brazil’s northeast. The wind and solar hybrid project, named Feijo, will be developed in the Brazilian states of Piaui and Pernambuco. Feijo will be equipped with 80 wind turbines by Nordex, a wind turbine manufacturer.

Robust Pumped Storage Growth To Reinforce Mainland China’s Renewables Growth

We have recently revised up our hydro-electric pumped storage generation and capacity forecasts for Mainland China, following positive developments in the sector. Mainland China is the top-performing market in Asia for pumped storage, with a total of 36.4GW of capacity as of end-2021. Over the coming years, we expect Mainland China’s hydro-electric pumped storage capacity to expand rapidly. In September 2021, the National Energy Administration (NEA) announced that it aims for hydro-electric pumped storage capacity to reach 62.0GW in 2025 and 120.0GW in 2030.

SIMEC Atlantis commissions pilot tidal project in Japan

SIMEC Atlantis Energy Ltd (SAE) has installed its demo tidal turbine and generation equipment in Japanese waters near the Goto Island chain. The pilot turbine has generated 10 MWh in its first 10 days of operation. Supply and installation of the turbine were provided under a contract to a Japanese company Kyuden Mirai Energy (KME).
