rPlus Hydro, a subsidiary of the US-based renewable energy firm rPlus Energies, has submitted a draft licence application for the Seminoe Pumped Storage project in Wyoming. The application was submitted to state and federal agencies as part of the proposed pumped hydro energy storage project’s multi-year study and approval process, which will have a capacity of up to 900 MW. The project, which would cost approximately $2.5 billion, will be located 35 miles north-east of Rawlins, in Carbon County.
Over the period of three to five years, it is expected to create 500 ‘high-skilled’ construction employment. It will be Wyoming’s first pumped hydro storage project once it is fully operational. In addition, the Seminoe Pumped Storage project will create 35 full-time jobs.
The proposed project’s configuration and design, maps, baseline studies and data, estimated costs, preliminary environmental analysis, and proposed construction schedules are all included in the draft licence application. The filing of the application commences a 90-day agency review process to refine the proposal before it is submitted to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
